Meeting attendees are invited to explore a behind-the-scenes selection of archival materials of interest to music scholars within a variety of contexts. Highlights include objects, sheet music, documents, and ephemera that help us to preserve and interpret the stories of people making music in New Orleans. A special emphasis will be placed on drummer/soldier Jordan Noble, 19th-century composer Basile Barès (and others within the western art music tradition), Creole folk song collector Camille Nickerson, and mid-20th century brass bands. The Historic New Orleans Collection staff will be on site to answer any questions about the use of our collections. Afterwards, visitors will be invited on a self-guided tour of our current exhibitions. To purchase a ticket, please see the online conference registration form. Space is limited.
