Call for Applications: AMS Guest Speaker Fund

Applications for the Guest Speaker Fund for the 2022 AMS Annual Meeting in New Orleans use a separate proposal submission process and have an earlier deadline than the CFP. Please see below for details.

To foster interdisciplinary collaboration, the AMS encourages Committees and Study Groups to invite guest speakers from outside the field of musicology to participate in their Annual Meeting sessions, vetted by the Committee on the Annual Meeting, in consultation with the Program Committee.

Grants of up to $1,500 will be considered to provide travel expenses (airfare, meals, lodging, etc.) and honorarium for each invited guest. Guest speakers will also be given complimentary conference registration.

Only one grant may be awarded to any committee or study group within a three-year period. Priority will be given to groups that have not yet hosted a guest speaker.

An application proposal consists of:

  1. A 500-word narrative description of the session, explaining the topic and what the guest speaker would contribute. Please include the titles, names, and affiliations of all participants to the extent possible.
  2. A budget for how the funds will be expended (including travel, lodging, and/or honorarium).
  3. A CV for the proposed guest.

Please submit proposals by 18 January 2022 to ams@amsmusicology.org. The Committee on the Annual Meeting, in consultation with the Program Committee Chair, selects up to three proposals from among the applicants.

Decisions will be announced by 1 February 2022, two weeks before the deadline for abstracts submitted to the Program Committee. (Please note that proposals for committee and study group sessions are due 15 March.)
